In classic American football fashion, the Dallas Cowboys suffered a devastating defeat at their own stadium, AT&T Stadium, at the hands of the Detroit Lions. The final score was a lopsided 47-9, leaving the Cowboys with a humbling 3-3 record on the season. This loss marked a new low for the team, as they have yet to secure a victory at home.
The Cowboys, now entering their bye week, will have a chance to regroup before facing the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8 on Sunday Night Football. However, their performance against the Lions left much to be desired. Their running game was virtually non-existent, their defense struggling to contain Jared Goff and the Lions’ offense, and Dak Prescott unable to spark any significant plays.
Jason Garrett, former head coach of the Cowboys from 2010 to 2019, provided his insights on what ails his former team during an appearance on NBC’s Football Night in America. According to Garrett, the Cowboys are lacking physicality on both sides of the ball, with a heavy reliance on Prescott to carry the offense every snap. Additionally, the defense has been unable to stop opposition’s running game.
In Garrett’s own words, “They’re not physical on either side of the ball. On offense, they can’t run it, they’re not controlling the line of scrimmage. Everything is on Dak, every time the ball is snapped. And they can’t stop the run on the other side.”
The Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, realizes that there is much work to be done to right the ship. With the 2024 season slipping away quickly, the team must address their issues promptly if they hope to salvage their campaign. The pressure is mounting for the Cowboys to deliver results on the field and prove that they are still a force to be reckoned with in the NFL.
