The New Orleans Saints are facing some tough challenges ahead of their upcoming game against the Denver Broncos, as they are dealing with a string of significant injuries.
Head coach Dennis Allen addressed the media in his Wednesday press conference and delivered some unfortunate news. Wide receiver Chris Olave will be sidelined for the game as he continues to recover from a concussion. This was expected as Olave had entered the league’s concussion protocol following the last game and with the Saints playing on a condensed schedule, there wasn’t much time for him to clear the necessary requirements.
Adding to their woes at the receiver position, Rashid Shaheed will also be missing the game due to a meniscus injury. Coach Allen announced that Shaheed will be traveling to Los Angeles for surgery. NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the surgery will provide more insight into the extent of Shaheed’s injury, whether he will be out for a few weeks or if his season is in jeopardy.
With both Olave and Shaheed out, quarterback Spencer Rattler will have to make do without the team’s top two receivers for the upcoming game. Shaheed leads the team with 349 receiving yards while Olave is close behind with 280 yards.
In addition to the receiver woes, there are concerns about the availability of Taysom Hill. Hill, who is dealing with a rib injury, is considered doubtful for the game.
Despite these setbacks, the Saints are gearing up to face the Broncos on Thursday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m., and it remains to be seen how the team will adapt to the absence of key players on the field.
