In a bold and unfiltered statement, Mekhi Becton, now with the Philadelphia Eagles, expressed his disdain for his former home at Metlife Stadium, where he spent the first four years of his NFL career with the New York Jets. His upcoming return to the stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, for a Week 7 matchup against the New York Giants has stirred up some strong emotions for the offensive lineman.
“I don’t wanna play in that sh—y stadium,” Becton declared in an interview with Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports. “It’s bad. Everything is just bad about that stadium. I don’t really like it. I’m just glad I only gotta do it one time a year. Just gotta go in there, do my 1-11 and go home.”
Becton’s time with the Jets was marred by injuries to his knee, shoulder, and ankle, which sidelined him for most of the 2021 season and the entire 2022 campaign. Despite his hardships, he considers himself lucky to have never suffered an injury on the infamous artificial turf of Metlife Stadium.
The former first-round pick’s season-ending knee injury in 2021 occurred on the road against the Carolina Panthers, highlighting the physical toll the sport can take on players. As Becton prepares to face his former team in a stadium he despises, one thing is clear – his heart is no longer in his old stomping grounds.
