The Pittsburgh Steelers are playing it coy when it comes to revealing who will be starting at quarterback in their Week 7 matchup against the New York Jets on Sunday night.
Wide receiver George Pickens may have accidentally spilled the beans, however. After Friday’s practice, Pickens was asked by the press if he had noticed any extra effort from quarterback Russell Wilson, who was rumored to be in contention for the starting job over Justin Fields.
“Getting on the same page [with Wilson] after practice throwing,” Pickens revealed to reporters on Friday. “More than usual because this is his first start.”
Despite Pickens’s slip-up, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin remained tight-lipped about his decision between Wilson and Fields. Tomlin insisted that the starting quarterback choice would be kept “in-house.”
But based on Pickens’s revealing comments, it seems likely that Wilson will be taking the field in black and gold for his debut start at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday night. The anticipation for this quarterback showdown is building as fans eagerly await to see what Wilson can bring to the table for the Steelers.
