The San Francisco 49ers faced a tough defeat at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch, with the final score being 28-18. Head coach Kyle Shanahan did not hold back in his assessment of the game, stating, “There’s no way to sugarcoat this. We got our ass kicked today.”
The 49ers struggled to contain the Chiefs’ rushing attack, allowing 184 yards on 39 attempts, averaging 4.7 yards per carry. Despite holding star quarterback Patrick Mahomes to just 145 passing yards and forcing two interceptions, the Chiefs managed to dominate on the ground, scoring four rushing touchdowns.
Kansas City’s defense also had a strong showing, intercepting quarterback Brock Purdy three times and limiting running back Jordan Mason to just 58 yards rushing. The Chiefs’ ability to capitalize on the Niners’ mistakes ultimately led them to victory, improving their record to 6-0.
Unfortunately for San Francisco, the loss dropped their record to 3-4, and they may be without star receiver Brandon Aiyuk for an extended period as Shanahan expressed concern that Aiyuk may have torn his ACL.
In the words of Shanahan, “There’s no way to sugarcoat this. We got our ass kicked today.” The brutal defeat serves as a wake-up call for the 49ers as they look to regroup and bounce back from this disappointing loss.
