In a devastating blow to the New Orleans Saints, cornerback Paulson Adebo has been placed on injured reserve after breaking his femur in Thursday night’s game against the Denver Broncos. Adebo underwent immediate surgery and is projected to be out for the remainder of the season, with his recovery expected to take 4-5 months.
The Saints wasted no time in filling Adebo’s roster spot, officially signing receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to take his place on the team. Additionally, the team announced the signings of safety Roderic Teamer and defensive back Shemar Jean-Charles. In corresponding moves, safety Johnathan Abram and offensive guard Chris Reed were cut from the practice squad.
Abram, a former first-round pick of the Las Vegas Raiders, had seen playing time in 12 games over two seasons with the Saints. Despite starting strong this season with significant snap counts in the first two games, Abram’s playing time dwindled to just 12 defensive snaps in Week 7.
With starter Will Harris sidelined on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, Jordan Howden stepped in to start alongside Tyrann Mathieu against the Broncos. Both Teamer and Jean-Charles have previously been with the Saints and will offer valuable experience and depth to the team.
The Saints will have to rely on their depth and the new additions to overcome the loss of Adebo and navigate the challenges of a competitive NFL season. As they continue to make adjustments to the roster, they will look to maintain their playoff aspirations and make a push for postseason success.
