In a turn of events during last Thursday’s preseason opener, Giants quarterback Drew Lock was forced to leave the game earlier than anticipated. However, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel as it appears that Lock’s absence will be short-lived.
Head coach Brian Daboll provided a glimmer of hope on Sunday when he announced that the team would not be signing another quarterback in response to Lock’s injury. This decision signified the team’s optimism that Lock would make a speedy recovery from his hip contusion and strained oblique. Lock himself echoed this sentiment on Monday, revealing that he has already resumed throwing and is confident that he will be ready to go in time for the regular season opener.
“I’ve been getting better every day,” Lock shared with Charlotte Carroll of the team’s website. “Me and Dabes have talked, not ruling out the possibility of playing [in the preseason]. Go out there, throw, see how it feels. Keep doing that. We did it today, we’re gonna do it tomorrow, the next day, the next day.”
As the season approaches, Lock is anticipated to serve as the backup to starting quarterback Daniel Jones, with Tommy DeVito positioned for the No. 3 role on the depth chart. Jones himself is slated to make his return to game action this week, marking his first appearance since suffering an ACL tear last season. The Giants are hopeful that with Lock on track for a swift recovery, their quarterback rotation will be back at full strength soon.
