The reigning champions, led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, are gearing up for another season opener on Thursday night as they kick off their title defense against the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs are well aware of the challenge ahead, with the Ravens aiming to dethrone them after falling short in last year’s AFC Championship Game.
Mahomes, alongside tight end Travis Kelce, is determined to show a fierce will to win as they face increasing pressure as defending champions. In an interview with Sky Sports, Mahomes expressed his hunger to make history by winning a third consecutive Super Bowl, a feat never achieved before in NFL history.
“The hunger (to win the Super Bowl again) is high,” Mahomes confirmed. “No one has ever been able to win three Super Bowls in a row. It’s obviously something you can strive to do.”
The star quarterback is not only focused on the upcoming Super Bowl in New Orleans, but also on breaking franchise records. Mahomes is just 84 passing yards away from surpassing Len Dawson as the Chiefs’ all-time leader in that category, a milestone he could reach as soon as Thursday night. By setting records and sending a message of offensive firepower, Mahomes is setting the stage for a dominant season.
Despite already having three Super Bowl titles under his belt, Mahomes knows that staying at the top requires hard work and a bit of luck when it comes to staying healthy. Kelce, who is approaching his 35th birthday next month, will be a key player in maintaining the Chiefs’ success. However, Mahomes remains confident that by staying ahead of their rivals and putting in the work each day, the Chiefs can emerge victorious once again on February 9, 2025.
“You know how hard it’s gonna be,” Mahomes acknowledged. “But all you can do is come to work every single day, and we’re a long way away.” The road to another championship will be challenging, but Mahomes is ready to chase history and lead his team to glory once again.
