Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Hollywood Brown suffered a sternoclavicular joint dislocation in the preseason, sidelining him for nearly five weeks. However, head coach Andy Reid provided an optimistic update on Brown’s recovery as the team prepared to face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.
Speaking at a press conference, Reid expressed hope for Brown’s progress but stopped short of confirming his availability for the upcoming game. “Listen: everybody’s different,” Reid said. “But it’s that same type of injury. He’s getting close. I know he’s feeling better. We’ve got to just kind of see where it goes from here. They’ve been doing these periodic tests on him, making sure that he’s headed in the right direction – scans and all that. [It] looks like he’s headed in the right direction.”
The Chiefs have been missing Brown since his injury in the preseason, but his potential return could greatly benefit their already explosive offense. In Week 1, rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy showcased his abilities with a 33-yard touchdown reception and a 21-yard end-around score.
With the possibility of Brown suiting up in Week 2, Reid emphasized the impact of Worthy’s speed on the team’s performance. “They definitely gave him the honor [of his] speed for sure with how they played when he was in,” Reid noted. “I think he showed that he can … go down the field when needed.”
Adding Brown back to the mix could make the Chiefs offense even more dynamic and unpredictable. Rashee Rice led the team’s wide receivers in Week 1 with 103 yards on seven catches, while Justin Watson and Worthy also made contributions.
As the Chiefs prepare to face the challenging Cincinnati Bengals, who have been a consistent challenge for Kansas City since 2018, the potential return of Hollywood Brown provides a glimmer of hope for the team’s success in Week 2.
