In a stunning move that sent shockwaves through the NFL, the Carolina Panthers decided to bench their young quarterback Bryce Young in favor of veteran Andy Dalton. This decision came as a surprise to many, especially considering the fact that Young was the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft just a year and a half ago.
Speculation immediately began swirling that the Panthers might look to trade Young and start fresh with a new quarterback. However, Panthers coach Dave Canales quickly squashed those rumors, stating, “That’s not something we’re really considering. We have a great situation with our quarterbacks right now… We love where we’re at and we’re all hands on deck. We’re focused on playing the (Las Vegas) Raiders this week.”
Young’s performance this season has left much to be desired, as he has only completed 31 of his 56 passes with zero touchdowns and three interceptions in two games. It seems the Panthers felt that a change was needed, which led to Dalton being named the starter for their upcoming game against the Raiders.
Dalton, who is entering his second start with the Panthers after a spot start in September 2023, will be tasked with trying to turn around Carolina’s winless start to the season. It remains to be seen how this quarterback shuffle will impact the team moving forward, but one thing is for certain – all eyes will be on Dalton as he takes the field on Sunday.
