In a recent press conference, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy addressed the looming question of wide receiver Hollywood Brown’s availability for the regular season opener. Brown suffered a sternoclavicular joint dislocation, leaving his status uncertain for the upcoming game.
Nagy expressed the team’s desire to have Brown back on the field as soon as possible, but also showed confidence in the depth of the roster. He stated, “We’ve got the guys to do it” in the event that Brown is unable to play. One of those guys is Justin Watson, who will be stepping into a larger role in Brown’s absence.
The offense won’t undergo any major changes with Watson filling in. Nagy emphasized Watson’s familiarity with the Chiefs’ system, calling him “invaluable” for his understanding of every position on the field. Nagy praised Watson’s grasp of the offense, noting that he seamlessly integrates into the game plan.
Watson, who has been with the team for the past two seasons, has proven himself with 42 catches for 775 yards and five touchdowns in regular season games. Additionally, he contributed nine catches for 120 yards during the postseason. His experience and production make him a reliable option as the Chiefs navigate Brown’s injury.
As the season opener approaches, the Chiefs are optimistic about their depth at the wide receiver position. While Brown’s availability remains uncertain, Nagy and the coaching staff have faith in the next man up mentality that Watson embodies. Despite the potential setback, Kansas City remains focused and prepared to take on their opponents with a versatile and resilient receiving corps.
