In his much-anticipated debut in Week 1 against the Chargers, Raiders first-round pick Brock Bowers did not disappoint. The young tight end showcased his talent by finishing the game with a team-high six catches for 58 yards, three of which resulted in crucial first downs for the team.
Head coach Antonio Pierce showered Bowers with praise during his Monday news conference, highlighting the potential he sees in the talented rookie. Pierce remarked, “I thought we saw just a glimpse of what it is and what he can be. What I really was excited about was him in the run game. I thought he had some really good examples of some blocks out there on their defensive ends, 52 [Khalil Mack] and 97 [Joey Bosa].”
Despite his impressive performance, Pierce acknowledged that there is still room for improvement for Bowers. “But again, like any rookie, it’s his first game. I think he felt like he left some yards out there as well. But it was good for him to get into the flow of the game, get his first couple catches, make some plays, move the chains for us, and again, just keep involving him into our game plan.”
Looking ahead to Week 2, Bowers and the Raiders will face a tough challenge as they travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens. It will be interesting to see how Bowers continues to develop and contribute to the team in the coming weeks.
