In a flurry of roster moves, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a few more cuts on Monday afternoon, as they strive to trim down to their final 53-man roster before the deadline on Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.
Offensive lineman Anderson Hardy, defensive back Kyler McMichael, and kicker Matthew Wright were the latest casualties announced by the team on Monday. Wright, in particular, had an interesting journey with the Steelers. Signed for the fourth time in April, Wright first joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2019. He later returned to the Steelers after a brief stint in the XFL, making a strong impression by going a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and 7-for-7 on extra points in three games. Wright then filled in for Chris Boswell during a stretch in 2022, going 12-for-14 on field goals.
With Wright’s departure, Boswell will once again take over kicking duties for the Steelers. Boswell, a longtime staple for the team, will look to provide stability in the kicking game as the season approaches.
Earlier in the day, the Steelers had already made waves by cutting offensive lineman Tyler Beach, receiver Jacob Copeland, running back Daijun Edwards, offensive lineman Devery Hamilton, receiver T.J. Luther, defensive lineman Marquiss Spencer, linebacker Kyahva Tezino, and defensive back Kiondre Thomas. The team’s coaching staff and front office are making some tough decisions as they shape the roster heading into the regular season.
As the dust settles on these roster moves, the Steelers will soon have their final 53 players in place. The competition has been fierce, but the team is confident in the group they have assembled for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates as the Steelers gear up for the start of another exciting NFL campaign.
